MFR FAQs
Hand Analysis FAQ's
1. What is a session like? A hand analysis session can be done in person or over Zoom. In both cases, it is best to get actual prints of your hands and finger prints. If done over a Zoom session, I will mail a packet with directions and materials for printing your hands and finger prints, which you will send back to me for assessment before your session.
2. Will you tell me my future or scary things? The scientific method I use is not predictive, nor does it contain scary information. Please refer to the Hand Analysis tab for more detailed information about what we talk about and discover in a hand reading session.
Why is your practice cash-based? And, what does that mean?
1. Why don't you bill insurance? Insurance providers often don't cover Myofascial Release as it is seen as a form of massage and massage is often considered not medically necessary. I also treat the WHOLE person and not just their diagnosis. Therapists bill insurance using a specific code related to body parts or diagnoses. An INTEGRATED approach to care, treating multiple body parts, can lead to insurance claim denials.
2. Is there a way that I can try to get reimbursed? Haelen Hands can provide you with a Superbill that you can submit to your carrier for POSSIBLE reimbursement. If accepted, you may not receive the total amount charged because you will still be subject to your deductible, co-pays, and plan limitations for specific services. Any Haelen Hands visits that are submitted to your insurance and approved will also count towards any limitation in number of annual visits outlined in your insurance plan. Please keep this in mind should you also need traditional rehabilitation care during your contract year.
- What is a session like? All sessions start with a check in and assessment followed by MFR techniques or joint mobilization toe facilitate greater ease of movement and reduction of pain.
- What do I need to wear or bring? Please plan to wear shorts/tank top/jog bra for women; shorts/t shirt for men. If you use lotions on your skin, on the day of the session, DO NOT wear lotion as it makes good contact difficult. PLEASE plan to HYDRATE by drinking water before and after your session.
- Will MFR hurt? This style of myofascial mobilization is gentle but deep. You should not feel pain during the session and if you do, you should immediately let me know so that I can change where I am working or decrease the amount of pressure I am using. Scientific studies show that fascial restrictions respond best to low load sustained pressures. HOWEVER, after a session as your body adjusts to the changes in the facial system, you may notice changes in your symptoms. If you do, please reach out. This is a COMMON response to care sometimes.
- Will I be given a home exercise program? Sessions and what to do between visits are customized to you and include self care, self treatment, self awareness and attention to daily postures or movements versus traditional exercises that people expect from a physical therapy session. The FOCUS for your home activity is helping you to be aware of patterns that contribute to the imbalances in your system that we find at each visit.
- What types of diagnoses can be benefit from MFR? ANYONE can benefit from MFR sessions regardless of any known diagnosis because restrictions in the fascial system do not need an injury to occur. Fascial restrictions can occur from movement, repetitive postures, past injuries or surgeries, trauma or emotional upset. If you do have a speficit diagnosis, MFR can help with that too.
